Whistler Day Trip

September 1, 2006 at 8:15 am (Carla's Musings)

We drove up to Whistler and met Arieanna & Ianiv there for some sightseeing and lunch. Whistler was, of course, very busy even with portions of the highway completely torn up in preparation for the 2010 Olympics.

On the way back from Whistler we stopped at Brandywine Falls, which were very beautiful. Thought we’d take a good work-out walk to Cal-Cheak Suspension Bridge. Not a well-marked trail, we kept walking and walking and finally when we thought we were almost there it still wasn’t, we were back near the highway and another road led to the “suspension bridge”. So Rick & Ianiv turned back to go and get the cars while Arieanna, myself and REO continued on to find the bridge.

Well, we finally could “see” the suspension bridge but it was time to head back, the guys were waiting for us. Arieanna and REO cooled off in the river, REO drank gallons of water. Returning home and upon reading about it on the internet it turned out it was a 2-hr return trip to the bridge, no wonder it took so long to find it. REO was absolutely worn out and my feet were quite sore as I was wearing sandles, wishing I had my runners on! But it was a good walk…we should have been better prepared!

Most of the “pull-out viewpoints” were closed because of the construction on the Sea to Sky Highway. Tried to catch as many shots as I could while driving. It was a beautiful drive as it was a lovely sunny day. In a couple years when the road is finished the drive will be spectacular.
